Biological Activity

 
Activin is a member of the TGF superfamily of cytokines and are involved in a wide range of biological processes
including tissue morphogenesis and repair, fibrosis, inflammation, neural development, hematopoiesis, reproductive system function, and carcinogenesis. Activin A plays an important role in hormone secretion, neuronal survival, and proliferation.

Under different tissue culture condition, Activin A has been shown to maintain pluripotency of stem cells and promote

Biological Activity

BMP-4 is a TGF superfamily ligand that is widely expressed from early embryogenesis through adulthood. It plays an
important role in mesenchyme formation, epidermal determination, suppression of neural induction, the development of
multiple organs, and tissue repair.

BMP-4 promotes differentiation of overlying ectodermal tissue. Inhibition of the BMP-4 signal causes the ectoderm to
differentiate into the neural plate. In cultured stem cells, BMP-4 plays a distinct role in mouse and human embryonic stem (ES) cells. BMP-4 supports LIF as a positive factor for mouse ES cell self-renewal
